The Fingal Lighthouse

The Fingal Lighthouse is an iconic establishment, erected in 1872. If you want to walk there from Kingscliff beach it takes about a 1 ½ hours, but it is well worth it. When it was first built it had a white light made up of 1,000 candelas, and was painted white, perched upon a low headland, however the light was so effective due to the headland being one of the most easterly points in Australia. In the olden days there was a kerosene wick burner, however in 1920 it was converted to automatic acetylene which increased the light and made it flash. If you aren’t wishing to walk there then you can reach the lighthouse via a short drive to Fingal followed by a short walk through remnant coastal rainforest.
